GOLDIE

Heaping falafel salads and loaded fries from Goldie.

All that glitters is not gold… sometimes, it’s falafel! At least, that’s our opinion on the food from Goldie. Based in Philadelphia, PA, Goldie is a completely vegan restaurant that serves up fresh-to-order falafel.

Over the past three years, we’ve visited Goldie a handful of times. In fact, we make a point of stopping there every time we’re in Philly. For us, it’s a guaranteed great lunch for a really affordable price.

Since their menu is pretty short, we’ve managed to eat our way through the entire thing. Here are our favourite items:

  • Falafel sandwich ($8.00) *
  • Shawarma spice fries ($3.00)
  • Tehina shake ($5.00)

Turkish coffee and banana tehina shakes.

One of our favourite things about Goldie is that it promotes accessible, plant-based eating. This restaurant caters to a huge variety of customers; vegans and non-vegans alike often line up out the door to get their falafel fix! Whether you eat in the trendy interior, or just grab lunch to go, the service at Goldie is always fast, and always friendly.

These falafel sandwiches have french fries on them!

It’s crunch time. What do we really think of Goldie?

We doubt that there’s a better vegan lunch available for less than $10, so we have to give Goldie 1/3 for price. This restaurant is incredibly affordable, and offers generous, hearty portions on the cheap.

Where quality is concerned, we think Goldie deserves 4/5. The food is made-to-order, so everything is always incredibly fresh. The flavours are subtle, sweet, and spicy, and always consistent between visits. Goldie could get 5/5 from us if their sandwiches were a little more saucy!

Goldie earned 3/5 for dietary, due to a lack of menu-labelling. We know that, technically, several items on their menu are gluten free; however, they don’t have gf alternatives, and nothing is certified as allergen-friendly.

For variety, we rated Goldie as 3/5. We have to admit that their menu is very small, but we’re happy to see a range of meal combinations, and a dessert option.

Yes, Goldie is a small business!
